The Annual 9th Street Italian Market Festival is a decades old tradition that began in the early 1970’s as an opportunity for the entire South Philadelphia neighborhood and community to celebrate our heritage and to showcase our marketplace. Throughout the years this Italian Festival has become the Philadelphia’s Favorite Block Party which now inhabits the S. 9th St Market from Fitzwater St to Wharton St. That is, EIGHT BLOCKS of non-stop action with Three Stages, Traditional Street Vendors & 100+ stores, featuring the Annual John Marzano Half Ball Tournament & the Annual Procession of Saints showcasing St. Paul Parish – home to the first Italian national parish in the United States (St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi was formed in 1852 by Bishop John Neumann).
Today the Annual Italian Market Festival is held on the 3rd weekend of May and attracts over 100,000 visitors during this two day celebration. The S. 9th Business Association (Founded in 1915) is the Sole Producer of the event and relies on Volunteers and Donations to help offset the ever-rising costs associated with producing this event. Against all odds, during these most recent difficult economic times while overcoming funding deficit from the city, the Association has successfully produced 8 Years of uninterrupted Festivals from 2003 thru 2010.
Please Join us and contribute to the Italian Market Festival Fund to help ensure that this tradition continues. Any amount is truly appreciated!
