Procession of The Saints - 3rd Sunday in May
Coinciding with the Italian Market Festival is the Procession of Saints, a Roman Catholic tradition, mostly seen in parishes that have an Italian history and heritage. St. Paul Parish in the Italian Market, holds a procession on the Sunday of the festival weekend where parishioners carry approximately 20 statues of saints, including two Blessed Mother statues throughout the neighborhood. Children who have recently made the sacrament of First Holy Communion are invited to honor the saints by wearing their fine white First Holy Communion attire. Also, a “May Queen,” traditionally a young girl from the parish, crowns the Blessed Mother with flowers during the 10:00 am mass at St Mary’s. Legend has it that May is “Mary’s Month” because it is traditionally when spring flowers are in bloom.
