Driving
The market is within minutes of major highway and bridge exits into Philadelphia, such as:
- I-95: Columbus Boulevard exit;
- Ben Franklin Bridge: 8th Street or Vine Street exits;
- Schuylkill Expressway: 8th Street exit; and
- Walt Whitman Bridge: 7th Street exit.
There are two official Italian Market parking lots:
- Ellsworth Street between 9th & 10 Streets; and
- Carpenter Street, between 9th & 10th Streets.
Parking is reasonably priced at $3/day and $5/night for unlimited hours.
Additional pay-lots are located at:
- Christian Street between 8th and 9th Streets; and
- Washington Avenue, between 8th and 9th Streets, and between 9th and 10th Streets.
Last but not least, two-hour parking is available on neighboring streets.
Public Transportation
There are a number of bus lines that run along South 8th, 9th, and 10th Streets. A subway stop is located at nearby Broad & Federal Streets. For complete public transportation schedules and maps, please visit www.septa.org.
Walking
The South 9th Street Italian Market is conveniently nestled in South Philadelphia and the beginning of the East side Center City, in the Passyunk Square and Bella Vista Civic Districts. It is within a short walking distance from numerous other tourist attractions such as Olde City, South Street, City Hall and major hotels. Its surrounding “Bella Vista” neighborhood is family-oriented and residential.
