After 32 years calling Philadelphia my home and 8 years of owning Melmo’s Dog Treats, I’m thrilled to celebrate the one-year anniversary of my first brick-and-mortar Melmo’s Treats at 905 S. 9th St. My name is Melissa Morales. I’m Italian and Irish live in South Philly, and have been a judge of elections at Gamp for the past six years. I serve in my local Lions club and sponsor animal rescues twice a month at my store. For me, Melmos is more than just a business, it’s a reflection of my commitment to Philly. I make handmade, human-grade dog, cat, and horse treats, sourcing ingredients from our amazing vendors in the Italian Market. I love collaborating with other small businesses just like mine. It’s been an incredible journey: starting the business a mile down the road, navigating the pandemic, shortages, and inflation, but ultimately taking a small simple concept and now being in 75 stores nationwide. This is my first shop, my baby. It’s where I develop new recipes, host parties and welcome your pets like they are my own. I invite you to stop by, say hello, grab a treat or share an idea.
